Kabul: ARCS and ICRC Discuss Expansion of Humanitarian Cooperation

Sheikh-ul-Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, General President of the ARCS, and ARCS Vice President Hafiz Azizur Rahman, met with Johannes Brouwer, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Afghanistan, to discuss ongoing and future humanitarian cooperation, joint programs, and the expansion of healthcare services.

During the meeting, Mr. Delawar provided information about ongoing humanitarian activities and healthcare services and shared details about the professional capacity of the newly inaugurated Cardiac Hospital. He said that five children with congenital heart defects undergo surgical operations at the hospital every day, and the facility has the capacity to accommodate 50 patients at a time.

He thanked humanitarian partners for their cooperation in expanding ARCS’s humanitarian services and called for further collaboration to strengthen healthcare services and address the urgent needs of citizens affected by recent floods.

Mr. Brouwer expressed commitment to expanding cooperation in the areas of healthcare services, economic empowerment of vulnerable families, and support for families affected by natural disasters. He said that future cooperation would be broader compared to previous years, with special attention given to remote areas. He also assured that cash assistance would be provided to families affected by the recent floods in Kunar and Nuristan provinces.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed that the technical teams of ARCS and the ICRC in the fields of healthcare and disaster response would hold joint meetings as needed to strengthen coordination and make joint humanitarian activities more effective.

The ARCS, in cooperation with its international partners, continues its efforts to expand joint programs in healthcare, emergency humanitarian assistance, and natural disaster management, while providing more effective responses to the needs of vulnerable citizens.
