Mr. Hafiz Azizur Rahman, Vice President of the ARCS, convened a joint meeting with representatives of the ARCS’s international partners in Afghanistan (the ICRC, the IFRC, the Red Crescent Societies of Türkiye and Qatar, and the Red Cross Societies of Norway and Denmark). The meeting focused on supporting families affected by the recent devastating earthquake in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces, with particular emphasis on addressing their challenges, and the provision of permanent shelter to the affected families.
During the meeting, Mr. Azizur Rahman provided an overview of the ARCS’s immediate response to the disaster, which included the delivery of first aid, provision of temporary shelters, distribution of hot meals, clean drinking water, and the deployment of relief staff to the affected areas. He also highlighted the most pressing needs of earthquake-affected families and called on partners to expand their support for the self-reliance of the affected families through sustainable initiatives, housing reconstruction and other impactful projects.
The partners commended ARCS for its swift, timely, and effective response in the aftermath of the disaster. They reaffirmed their commitment to continue their support, pledging to align their assistance with the urgent needs of affected families and to help secure permanent housing for displaced communities.
