Sheikh Ul Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, President of the ARCS, convened an online meeting with the representatives of 75 national societies, in the presence of officials from partner organizations in Afghanistan (ICRC, IFRC, and Norwegian Red Cross). The virtual meeting aimed to provide detailed information on the recent earthquake in Kunar province, the urgent humanitarian needs, and the extensive damage inflicted upon local communities.
During his remarks, Mr. Delawar highlighted the challenges in accessing the earthquake-affected areas. He reported that, in addition to numerous casualties and injuries, thousands of homes have been destroyed. Families affected by the earthquake urgently require shelter, clean drinking water, food, and comprehensive medical services. He noted that ARCS relief teams are already on the ground delivering humanitarian assistance in various parts. Nevertheless, the scale of the destruction remains substantial, and affected communities require extensive support.
Representatives of the national societies expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and pledged their full support to the earthquake victims. They affirmed that, in coordination with ARCS, they would scale up aid initiatives based on the needs of the affected communities.
