ARCS Holds Emergency Meeting with Partners to Support Earthquake-Affected Communities in Eastern Afghanistan

Monday, September 1, 2025

Mawlawi Rohullah Abdul Salaam, Under-Secretary General of Operational Affairs of the ARCS, held an emergency meeting with representatives from partner organizations (ICRC, IFRC, Turkish and Qatar Red Crescents, and Danish and Norwegian Red Cross Societies) to coordinate emergency health services as well as food and non-food assistance for communities affected by the devastating earthquake in Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, and Nuristan provinces.
During the meeting, Mr. Abdul Salaam stated that last night’s deadly earthquake caused heavy casualties and significant financial losses, while also damaging roads and triggering landslides that have obstructed access routes. Despite these challenges, ARCS medical and rescue teams have reached the affected areas and are actively delivering life-saving assistance.
He urged partner organizations to strengthen ARCS’s efforts by contributing emergency health support, hot meals, clean drinking water, and temporary shelter for impacted families.
Partner organizations expressed their condolences over the tragedy and pledged support, assuring that they would share updates with their headquarters to mobilize rapid humanitarian relief through ARCS for the affected communities.
