Acting General President Meets IFRC Head for Afghanistan to Discuss Urgent Refugee Support

Monday, June 23, 2025

In a high-level meeting, Sheikh Ul Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, Acting General President of ARCS, met with Mr. Sami Fakhouri, Head of IFRC in Afghanistan, and his accompanying delegation to address the urgent needs of returning refugees. The discussion focused on mobilizing emergency humanitarian support for returnees.

During the meeting, the Acting President expressed gratitude to the IFRC’s past contributions and emphasized that supporting refugees is a shared responsibility of all. He called on the international humanitarian organizations to intensify their efforts to assist returnees during this critical time.

He noted that while ARCS has already established camps providing clean water, hot meals, and health services, additional support from partner humanitarian organizations remains essential to expand these operations.

Mr. Fakhouri acknowledged ARCS’s efforts on the ground and stated, “In the coming days, we intent to conduct on-site assessments of the temporary refugee camps in Herat and Nimroz provinces. Our goal is to coordinate with partners and mobilize further support to address the existing challenges and gaps.”
