Job Description:
Provide reliable pre-analytical, basic analytical and post-analytical laboratory support for clinical services (OPD, OT, ICU, wards): receive and process specimens, perform point-of-care and basic bench tests under supervision, maintain equipment readiness and sample traceability, and ensure timely, safe delivery of laboratory results to clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1.     Receive, register and priorities specimens; verify patient identity, lab request completeness and proper labelling before processing.
2.     Perform basic phlebotomy and specimen collection support when assigned; prepare, label, centrifuge, aliquot and store samples with correct cold-chain handling.
3.     Run authorized point-of-care and simple bench tests (e.g., bedside glucose, Hb, urine dipstick, pregnancy tests) and record/transmit results promptly; escalate critical values immediately.
4.     Prepare reagents/consumables, perform daily start-up/shutdown and basic maintenance on assigned analyzers and small equipment as instructed.
5.     Enter results and specimen metadata into laboratory logbook or LIS/HMIS; maintain reagent lot/expiry and temperature logs and notify senior staff of QC issues or low stock.
6.     Clean and maintain workbench, basic equipment and refrigerators; follow biosafety, chemical handling, sharps and waste-segregation procedures.
7.     Perform pre/post-shift checks, report equipment faults or QC failures to Senior Technologist/Biomedical Engineering and assist with urgent sample transport (OR/ICU/stat).
8.     Maintain accurate procedural logs and assist with basic QC recording, participation in shift handovers and competency assessments as requested.
9.     Support specimen packaging/dispatch to reference labs or blood bank and assist with crossmatch coordination under supervision.
10.  Adhere to PPE, HBV vaccination and IPC policies; participate in rostered shifts including night/weekend duties as required.
Job Requirements:
 
Mandatory:
·        Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (or equivalent vocational certificate) with documented practical training.
·        Registration with national authority.
Preferred:
·        Certificate/experience in phlebotomy, POCT operation or basic bench testing.
·        BLS certificate desirable.
·        Prior exposure to hospital lab workflows (OT/ICU/ward support) or pediatric setting advantageous.
Minimum experience
•    Minimum 2 year clinical/technical experience in a hospital laboratory or diagnostic setting; preference for candidates with 3 years in lab support roles.
