Job Description:

Ensure the safe, reliable and continuous operation of all electrical systems in the hospital, including power supply, generators, critical medical areas, and electrical equipment. The Senior Electrical Technician will supervise electrical maintenance activities, support installation and troubleshooting of systems, and ensure that operating theatres, ICU and other critical departments always have stable and safe electricity. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintain and monitor the hospital’s electrical systems, including power distribution panels, wiring, lighting systems and electrical safety across all departments.

 2. Operate and supervise backup power systems, including generators, UPS units and related equipment, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to critical areas such as ICU, operating theatres, Cath Lab and medical equipment rooms.

 3. Inspect and maintain electrical infrastructure regularly, identify potential faults early, and carry out preventive maintenance to avoid service interruptions. 

4. Respond quickly to electrical faults or emergencies, troubleshoot problems, restore power safely, and coordinate repairs when needed. 

5. Support installation and commissioning of new medical and non-medical equipment, ensuring correct electrical connections and compliance with safety standards.

 6. Coordinate with biomedical engineers, contractors and suppliers during installation, maintenance or repair of hospital equipment that requires electrical support. 

7. Supervise and guide junior electricians or technical assistants, assign daily tasks and ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently. 

8. Maintain records of electrical maintenance activities, equipment inspections, generator operations and repair works for hospital documentation.

 9. Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, promote safe working practices and help reduce risks such as electrical hazards, overloads or equipment damage. 

10. Carry out any other technical duties assigned by hospital management related to electrical systems and hospital infrastructure.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or Diploma or recognized technical education in electrical systems with strong practical experience. Preferred Training or certification in industrial electrical systems, generators or hospital facility maintenance. Familiarity with backup power systems, electrical safety practices and hospital infrastructure.

 Minimum Experience:

1. Bachelor’s degree holders.

2. Minimum 3–4 years of relevant experience, preferably in a hospital or large institutional facility. 

3. Diploma/technical qualification holders.

4. Minimum 5 years of practical experience, preferably in tertiary care hospitals or complex facilities. 

5. Experience with hospital generators, power backup systems, ICU/OT electrical support, and equipment installation will be considered an advantage.
