The Afghan Red Crescent Society In addition to its humanitarian programs, has a department to take care of headless and needy families and provided them food and non-food items who are unable to meet their basic needs.

For that purpose the ARCS has set up Marastoons (social welfare centers) in Kabul, Kandahar, Herat, Nangarhar and Balkh provinces, in which needy and headless families and citizens are kept, who are facing various problems such as war, natural disasters, social problems, poverty and destitution have forced people to live in these centers. The families and people who live in the Red Crescent Marastoons have each told the most painful and shocking story of their lives, which evokes the sleepy emotions of every human being. include those persons whose fathers, brothers, uncles and many other close relatives have turned their backs on them some of them claim that they have sold household items, served in people's homes, turned to charities and stood at the doors of charitable foundations to meet the basic needs of life.

He gave in to the work beyond his means and gave himself over to other hard work in order to earn a living despite all these difficulties, he has not been able to find a sure way to solve his problems.

According to them, the Red Crescent is the only reliable source for them, in which they can live comfortably without fear with their children. They appreciate the service of the Red Crescent thanked and are in prayer the officials of this charitable foundation for providing them with shelter, clothing, food, health care center, children's education and vocational training. For example, in addition to accommodating children in the Kabul Marastoon, schools, mosques, clinics, amusement parks, playgrounds for children, kindergartens and vocational training projects have been set up.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society provides educational opportunities for children, so that they can receive an education within a certain period of time, which will enable them to receive the basic necessities of life outside of marastoons. They kept in marastoons for a fixed period of time, not permanently.there may be many families and individuals in the country who are attracted to the Marastoons but unfortunately the possibilities of the Red Crescent are limited and not all can accept the conditions of the Marastoons. Under the new procedure, which is now being considered, some needy and poor families have benefited from the Red Crescent's assistance outside of the Marastoons. In recent years, a center for the selection of psychiatric patients has been set up in Kabul Marastoons which treated patients in the Marastoons. As a result of these activities, the condition of some of the patients involved is improving and they have been provided with sports equipment to rehabilitate the patients that would have a positive effect on their health.

In Herat Marastoons not only are headless families and children being cared but 244 ill women, men and minors living in different parts of the country are being monitored. In addition to food and shelter, patients are provided with health care to improve their health. Although the Red Crescent is not obligated to treat the mentally ill, it has undertaken this difficult and challenging task in the spirit of humanity. The support of the Afghan Red Crescent Society Marastoons by the people can further strengthen the foundation and can further expand their humanitarian activities such as the newly-formed Marastoon by one charitable citizen in Nangarhar province. Any citizen who feels this way can established Marastoons with the help of the Red Crescent's representatives in different provinces by doing so receive the prayers of the needy and the helpless.

History of the Marastoons:

Marastoons was established for the first time in Kabul, during the time of Mohammad Nader Khan, in that time the name of the Marstoon was "Daroul-yatam Nadre" It was administered by the municipality at that time. In the 1325 solar year, Marastoon was named Darul Masakin, which was located in Hashmat Khan Qala, Kabul and its administrative affairs were handed over to the Ministry of Finance. A few years later, Dar al-Masakin was transformed into Marastoon, and was relocated in the Afshar-e- Silo which was administered by the president due to its similarity to the activities of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, it was integrated into the organizational structure of the Afghan Red Crescent Society in the year of 1342.
