The ARCS Health Services Department has launched a six-day training workshop on water and sanitation activities in emergencies in Kabul, with financial support from the ICRC.
The workshop is attended by staff from the Water and Sanitation Unit of the ARCS Health Services Department, as well as representatives of the ICRC and the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mawlawi Rohullah Abdul Salam, Under-Secretary General for Operational Affairs of the ARCS, highlighted the importance of water and its vital role in the survival and well-being of all living things.
He said that all living things depend on water and that its proper use and management are everyone’s responsibility. He added that during displacement, droughts, and emergencies, many people are deprived of access to clean water, making water management and the provision of clean water particularly important.
Dr. Abdullah Irfan, Director of Health Services at the ARCS, welcomed the launch of the training workshop and expressed hope that the program would help strengthen staff members’ professional capacities in water and sanitation during emergencies.
He emphasized the importance of clean water in preventing many diseases and described providing communities with clean water as a shared responsibility of the relevant organizations.
During the six-day workshop, participants will receive essential information and practical guidance on water quality, water treatment, access to clean water, and methods of providing water during emergencies.
