Job Description:
Support the perfusion team by preparing, maintaining and assisting with extracorporeal circuits and disposables (CPB, ECMO, cell-saver), perform routine checks and first-line troubleshooting, assist priming/decontamination under supervision, and maintain consumable traceability and safe perfusion workflows in theatre and ICU.
Key responsibilities
1.      Prepare perfusion equipment and disposables before cases: assemble tubing, oxygenators, filters, reservoirs and cell-saver sets per checklist.
2.      Prime CPB and extracorporeal circuits under direct supervision, verify readiness using standardised checklists and hand over documented checklists to the lead perfusionist.
3.      Support intra-operative perfusion activities: stage backup circuits, supply consumables promptly, assist with rapid circuit changes or swaps when directed.
4.      Assist with ECMO circuit set-up/dismantling and bedside ECMO tasks under supervision of credentialed perfusion staff.
5.      Perform routine start-up checks and first-line troubleshooting (power/cable reconnection, tubing/kink checks, basic alarm response) and escalate technical faults to Biomedical Engineering or senior perfusionist.
6.      Log and maintain traceability of perfusion consumables and implants (record serial/batch numbers) and hand records to senior staff for patient files.
7.      Clean, decontaminate and store reusable perfusion components per IPC/CSSD procedures; ensure safe handling of blood products and sharps.
8.      Maintain stock records, assist inventory counts, prepare restock requests and keep the perfusion storeroom organised for rapid access.
9.      Maintain perfusion checklists, logbooks and basic documentation; assist with data entry, incident reporting and participation in perfusion case reviews and corrective actions.
10.  Participate in on-call/perfusion support rosters for emergency lists or ECMO activations as rostered; work reliably in theatre/ICU environments and communicate effectively with the clinical and biomedical teams.
Job Requirements:
 
Mandatory:
·        Diploma/degree in Biomedical Technology, Clinical/Operating Theatre Technology, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology or an allied-health technical qualification.
·        Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
·        Familiarity with hospital sterile processes and SOP adherence.
Preferred:
•    Prior experience or training in perfusion technology, ECMO support, or cardiac operating theatre support.
•    Certificate in perfusion assistance, clinical engineering or similar allied-health specialty.
•    ACLS/PALS desirable.
Minimum experience
·        1–3 years clinical/technical experience in hospital settings; at least 12 months exposure to cardiac OT, perfusion unit or ICU preferred.
·        Demonstrable hands-on experience with medical devices, tubing assembly or operating theatre workflows is an advantage.
