Kabul: ARCS Leadership Meets with IFRC Secretary General

Sheikh-ul-Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, General President of the ARCS, and Vice President Hafiz Azizur Rahman met with Mr. Jagan Chapagain, the Secretary General of the IFRC, and Hossam Faysal, the Head of the IFRC Delegation for Afghanistan, at the ARCS Central Headquarters.

Welcoming the IFRC Secretary General, Mr. Delawar expressed his appreciation for the IFRC’s continued financial and technical support to the ARCS and commended the cooperation of IFRC personnel working in Afghanistan.

He thanked the IFRC for sharing its message of condolence on the passing of the late Abdullah Mufakir, Head of ARCS Provincial Assemblies, and another ARCS staff member. He also provided information about the tragic incident in which they lost their lives due to flooding while serving the people..

Mr. Delawar provided an overview of the ARCS’s health services, particularly the treatment of patients with congenital heart defects and mental health disorders. He also highlighted the humanitarian services and assistance provided to families affected by natural disasters, women without guardians, and returning refugees.

He noted that Afghans continue to face significant humanitarian challenges as a result of decades of conflict and recurring natural disasters and therefore require sustained support. He emphasized that the ARCS seeks enhanced cooperation from the IFRC to further expand its humanitarian services, meet the needs of affected populations during emergencies, and ensure the effective delivery of assistance.

In turn, IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain expressed his condolences over the loss of the two ARCS staff members and assured support for their bereaved families.

He stated that the purpose of his visit to Afghanistan was to closely assess the humanitarian activities and services of the ARCS, enabling him to share the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people, the achievements of the ARCS, and key humanitarian priorities with international partners and donor organizations.

Mr. Chapagain stated that the IFRC will continue its humanitarian assistance and cooperation with the ARCS.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to expand humanitarian activities, health and relief services, capacity-building programs, and mutual cooperation.
