Job Description:
Ensure 24/7 reliable operation, preventive maintenance and rapid fault response of the hospital’s central HVAC plant (chillers, AHUs, boilers, pumps, BMS and distribution) to maintain required temperature, humidity and pressure regimes for OTs, ICU/CICU, Cath Lab, CSSD and patient areas while protecting clinical services.
Key responsibilities:
1.     Operate and manage central plant (chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, AHUs/FCUs, VAVs) and associated controls to maintain clinical environmental setpoints and air-change/pressure requirements.
2.     Lead preventive maintenance and commissioning tasks: plan schedules, execute shutdowns with minimal clinical disruption, keep maintenance history and produce completion reports.
3.     Monitor and optimise the Building Management System (BMS): respond to alarms, review trend logs, adjust control strategies and escalate unresolved control faults.
4.     Diagnose plant faults and lead emergency responses (plant trips, refrigerant leaks, pump failures, water leaks); implement immediate corrective actions and coordinate clinical contingencies during incidents.
5.     Manage HVAC infection-control measures: oversee filtration HEPA/filters where required, filter-change programs, air-balancing, pressure-certification and coordination with IPC for recertification of sterile zones.
6.     Supervise, train and roster HVAC team; assign tasks, check work quality, enforce safe practices (lockout/tagout, confined-space) and sign off competencies.
7.     Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with Biomedical, Electrical and Procurement teams; maintain critical spare-part lists and recommend lifecycle replacements.
8.     Run daily plant rounds and pre-list environmental checks for OTs/ICU; record operational parameters (pressures, flows, temperatures, energy metrics) and report exceptions to engineering leadership.
9.     Ensure compliant refrigerant handling, record-keeping and environmental safety; manage vendor service contracts and verify vendor work.
10.  Provide 24/7 on-call coverage for plant emergencies, participate in major repairs/commissioning and maintain operational documentation in English for audits/reports.
Job Requirements:
 
Mandatory:
·        Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering / HVAC Engineering OR recognised HVAC/Refrigeration Diploma with strong verifiable experience.
·        Formal training or certificate in industrial refrigeration or chiller operation.
·        Electrical safe-isolation competency and safe-working permits training.
·        Ability and authorization to work on-site 24/7.
Preferred:
·        BMS/PLC training or vendor-specific BMS experience.
·        Experience with hospital/clean-environment HVAC commissioning and air-balancin
Minimum experience
·        Minimum 5 years practical experience operating and maintaining central HVAC systems; at least 2 years in a senior/supervisory operator role in large buildings or hospital environments.
·        Demonstrable experience with clinical/clean-room HVAC systems strongly preferred.
